JEFF ALKIRE

Saxophonist JEFF ALKIRE  has toured, performed or recorded with the likes of Ray Charles, Charles Haden, Joe Farrell, Art Lande, Chuck Isreals, Eddie Marshall, and John Lee Hooker. He is adept at playing straight ahead, bebop, big band, latin and free jazz as well as the blues. He studied at Berklee College of Music and California Institute of the Arts where he earned both a B.F.A and M.F.A degree in Jazz/ African American Music Performance. Jeff currently performs in a number of Adelaide venues and lectures in Jazz Studies at the University of Adelaide.

Takin' Notes consists of melodic straight ahead jazz derived from the almost magical intercommunication of combo members. The complex compositions delight the sophisticated jazz listener while the deceivingly simple melodies appeal to the unschooled ear.

His untitled CD is a collection of the eclectic talent Jeff has to offer - from the unique blend of West African rhythms and simple sax line; a haunting composition of basson, voice and sax; to hard-hitting free jazz.
